Commission your Portrait ~ All the FAQ's

Commissioning a portrait is a very special and personal process.  Capturing a memory, a moment, emotion, meaning and strong sense of the character of the subject is a skill spent years in development.  Below you will see examples of some recent portraits which were commissioned.  All paintings are in Oil.

A size of canvas is picked, and the number of figures and facial portraits that will be included.  We discuss how elaborate the background setting will be.  Often clients love the idea of a setting that is meaningful to them rather than a traditional neutral tone.

These variables set the price, and modifications can be made to accommodate budget.

I work comfortably from very good photos.  This means the photo must have the look and lighting that you want to see in the finished painting.  The photo needs to be sent to me in as high res as possible.  I need other photos of the subject from different angles and lighting so that I have a good understanding of the person I am painting.  Ideally we would have conversation about the personality and outstanding characteristics of the subject.  What makes them smile? What do they love in life? What are they passionate about? And more, more, more.

Portraits take approximately two weeks to complete.  There is a drying time after finish of at least a week.  Once ready, the portrait is shipped to the location you provide in the appropriate shipping carton.  Shipping is extra and determined by size of the box, the weight and the location it will be going to.

You will be totally involved with the process receiving update photos as the painting progresses, a studio visit if you are local, and all your comments on the likeness will be appreciated.  If you are the subject of the portrait and are local, it would be of great benefit for you to sit for me as I paint for one or two hours, and it also allows us to do photography together to determine the pose, lighting and background.  I do all the photography for a small additional charge or you can hire a pro photographer to work with us.

Portraits are charged at 50% down, and balance upon completion.  Shipping charges will be extra, and paid before shipment.
