I love watching the 1964 movie, 'The Pumpkin Eaters'. The black and white cinematography by Oswald Morris depicted amazing facial expressions from old character actors. I was inspired by the cinematic style of lighting in this film and I used light as an emotional and spiritual renewal for the loneliness this woman I have portrayed was feeling.
It's likely we will all battle depression and uncertainty, rocky relationships and heart rending problems, but light shall always overcomes the dark, which is the symbolism of this red hat woman bathed in serene light evoking prayer. I hope you feel her transcendance as you look.
