Tidepools are endlessly fascinating as waves crash over and drain away, little waterfalls and rivulets run through spaces between sharp rocks. In this plein-air impressionistic oil painting the main activity of water smashing rocks shares the spotlight with a young girl in a pink dress balancing precariously as she picks her way back to shore across the rough slippery and sharp rocks. Her outstretched arms echo the curve of the large wave breaking to her left. The late afternoon provides dramatic shadows.
